Focus on the Family Hosts Heart Gallery of Colorado for a Third Year

Colorado Springs, CO -- The Heart Gallery of Colorado is coming to the Focus on the Family campus November 1. During its three-month stay, the gallery will feature professional photos of 50 difficult-to-place foster children in Colorado. These children, who haven’t yet been adopted because of their ages or the fact that siblings may be involved, are seeking families who will love them forever.
During the past two years, the Focus on the Family Welcome Center has generated more response for the Heart Gallery of Colorado than any other Colorado location. "Focus on the Family is privileged to host the Heart Gallery in our Welcome Center for the third time," says Focus on the Family's Hospitality Specialist Diane Ingolia. "As an organization dedicated to nurturing and defending families worldwide, it is a special honor to aid in increasing adoption awareness right in our own community."
According to the Adoption and Foster care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) report, a publication of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 513,000 children were in foster care as of September, 2005. The number of children currently eligible for adoption in the Colorado foster care system is approximately 770.
Founded in New Mexico in 2001, the Heart Gallery encourages the adoption of older foster children and siblings through professional photography. It features children whose respective personalities are captured by talented photographers. Since the inception of this powerful initiative, numerous states have joined the effort to find homes for foster children by holding active Heart Galleries of their own. Heart Galleries have been featured in media outlets such as Parade, TIME, People, and The New York Times.
