In This Election Year, Pastors Provide Stability and Support

Colorado Springs, Co. – October is Clergy Appreciation Month, a time dedicated to showing pastors and their families how much they mean to their communities and local church constituencies. Focus on the Family is again highlighting this month by providing creative ideas and resources to church members interested in recognizing their pastors throughout October.
Because of the nature of their assignments, especially in an election year, many clergy find themselves in a “fishbowl” environment. Yet thousands of unnamed pastors live in that environment, offering counsel and guidance to their congregations year-round. Pastors and their families are often put on a pedestal to be emulated as well as scrutinized, and this can wear down even the strongest leaders. Showing clergy gratitude not only improves their individual morale, but helps keep them effective in their churches and communities.
"Pastors desperately need a reminder that their sacrifices are worthwhile," says H.B. London, Jr., vice president of Pastoral Ministries at Focus on the Family. "They need to be appreciated for their tireless dedication in supporting and uplifting their communities. Churches who intentionally recognize and thank their leaders often report a marked difference in the attitude of their pastor as well as the climate of their church as a whole. A little bit of gratitude can make an enormous impact."
Focus on the Family encourages churches nationwide to celebrate Clergy Appreciation Month. Additional information as well as a Clergy Appreciation Month Planning Guide can be accessed at www.clergyappreciation.org.
